The National Liver Institute at Menoufia University, in cooperation with the University’s Integrated Convoys Administration, the Directorate of Health Affairs, and the “BeShababiha” Union, launched a comprehensive medical and awareness convoy to “ميت عافية” village in Shebin El-Kom district. The initiative was organized as part of the sustainable development initiative “Yes to Developing Our Village” and within the framework of activating the leading societal role of Menoufia University and supporting the presidential initiatives aimed at developing the Egyptian countryside.

The convoy successfully provided free medical examinations, diagnostic services, and medications to 82 residents of the village under the patronage of Professor Dr. Ahmed Farag El-Qassed, President of Menoufia University; Major General Amr El-Gharib, Governor of Menoufia; and under the general supervision of Professor Dr. Sobhy Shaaban Sharaf, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Supervisor of the Education and Student Affairs Sector; Dr. Amr Mostafa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Menoufia; and Dr. Suzy Hamed, General Coordinator of the Presidential Initiatives.

The convoy was directly supervised by Professor Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute, and Professor Dr. Hany Abdel Meguid Sherim, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, with field follow-up and executive coordination by Dr. Ahmed Attia, Executive Director of the Institute Hospital.

The convoy witnessed intensive activity from the institute’s medical team, which included distinguished physicians specializing in pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, public health, pharmacy, and administration. The convoy achieved the following outcomes:

  • Ultrasound (sonar) examinations conducted for 18 cases.
  • Internal medicine consultations provided for 20 adult patients.

  • Examination of 16 specialized surgical cases, with two cases referred for further medical intervention.

Pharmaceutical Services and Presidential Initiatives

Free medications and treatment were provided to all patients through joint support from the institute and the “BeShababiha” Union. Meanwhile, the Health Directorate team conducted blood pressure and blood sugar measurements, as well as early screening for kidney disease, cancers (including lung, colon, prostate, and cervical cancers), and women’s health conditions.

Educational and Awareness Activities

A total of 37 citizens benefited from an interactive awareness seminar delivered by Dr. Alaa Abdel Ghany entitled “Obesity Is Not a Stigma,” which addressed healthy lifestyle behaviors for obesity prevention without social stigmatization.

In this context, Professor Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute at Menoufia University, emphasized the strategic importance of early detection in reducing complications of serious diseases, stating:

“The institute places all its medical and research capabilities at the service of the community through these convoys. Today, we focused on the early screening of cancers, liver cancer, hepatitis B and C viruses, and fatty liver disease. Our mission is to provide integrated and free medical and diagnostic services directly to citizens in their villages in order to support better health and quality of life in the Egyptian countryside.”

For his part, Professor Dr. Hany Abdel Meguid Sherim, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, stated:

“The philosophy of community service at the National Liver Institute goes beyond providing temporary medical care; it extends to establishing sustainable health awareness as the first line of defense against chronic diseases. We are keen on combining accurate medical diagnosis with educational seminars that directly impact citizens’ daily lives, such as raising awareness about obesity risks and fatty liver diseases. We highly value this harmony and fruitful cooperation with the University Convoys Administration, the Directorate of Health Affairs, and youth civil society organizations such as the ‘BeShababiha’ Union, which reflects the collective efforts toward achieving the goals of the presidential initiatives and building a healthy society.”
