The Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the National Liver Institute continues to achieve remarkable medical milestones — fighting a different kind of battle this time 💪

During the past week, the Interventional Radiology Unit team successfully managed several delicate and complex cases using the latest interventional radiology techniques without the need for surgery. Among the most notable cases:

1️⃣ Hepatic Artery Angioplasty for a liver transplant patient suffering from arterial stenosis, where the artery was successfully dilated using a specialized balloon, restoring normal blood flow to the transplanted liver.

2️⃣ Control of severe gastrointestinal bleeding by embolizing the gastroduodenal artery (GDA) using selective catheterization and embolization, which successfully stopped the bleeding and saved the patient’s life.

3️⃣ Placement of an Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter for a patient with lower limb deep vein thrombosis to prevent pulmonary embolism — a crucial life-saving preventive measure.

4️⃣ Renal Artery Embolization for a patient with post-biopsy renal bleeding, where the bleeding branch was successfully occluded, stopping the hemorrhage and preserving kidney function.
