Launch of a Specialized Workshop at the National Liver Institute on Reference Citations
The National Liver Institute at Menoufia University organized an advanced workshop entitled “Reference Citations for Scientific Research”, as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and efficiency of scientific research. The workshop was held under the gracious patronage of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Farag El-Kassed, President of the University; Prof. Dr. Ghada Ali Hassan, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute and Chairman of the Hospital Board. The event was supervised by Prof. Dr. Hany Shereim, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Iman Abdel Samee, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research. It witnessed distinguished attendance from researchers, postgraduate students, and faculty members of the Institute.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the Institute, emphasized the pivotal role of such workshops in a researcher’s academic journey, stating:
“We consider mastering reference citation mechanisms an integral part of research ethics. It represents the first line of defense against plagiarism and intellectual theft. Our goal is for all research produced by the Institute to comply with the highest internationally recognized publishing standards.”
Dr. El-Sayed Ragab El-Asrag, Director General of Libraries and Director of the Digital Library at Menoufia University, delivered a comprehensive presentation on documentation mechanisms. He introduced reference management software, highlighting its importance in organizing sources, saving time, and ensuring error-free reference lists.
The discussion was further enriched by Mr. Ahmed Abdel-Gaber Selim, University Database Coordinator, who contributed the practical aspect of linking research to digital databases. He also explained the practical steps for using EndNote in detail, starting from data import through effective integration within theses and research papers, and formatting the final reference list according to international citation styles.
For her part, Prof. Dr. Iman Abdel Samee, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research, stressed the importance of high-quality research outputs, noting:
“Supporting documentation skills and using advanced tools such as EndNote reflects our commitment to applying the global standards required by international journals. This directly contributes to increasing the impact factor of the University’s research and enhancing its international ranking.”
