National Liver Institute, Menoufia University, Races Against Time to Save 6 Critical Biliary Endoscopy Cases During Eid Holiday
The National Liver Institute announced the successful completion of six highly delicate biliary endoscopy procedures for emergency and high-risk cases during the second day of the Eid Al-Fitr holiday. This effort comes as part of the institute’s emergency plan to ensure continuous provision of advanced medical services and prevent delaying life-threatening cases.
Prof. Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute, emphasized that the institute operates at full human and technical capacity even during the most challenging times and official holidays. He stated:
"The National Liver Institute will always remain a stronghold of medicine in Egypt and the Middle East. Our primary mission is to answer the call of duty at any moment. What the medical team accomplished today, on the second day of Eid, is no surprise to the institute’s staff; it reflects our humanitarian and professional mission. We are proud to have a medical team that works as one under the toughest conditions to provide care worthy of the Egyptian patient."
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Atiya, Executive Director of the institute’s hospital, explained that strict schedules were set for medical and nursing teams during the holiday to ensure full readiness. He added:
"Handling six critical biliary endoscopy cases in a single day and completing them successfully is a testament to the hospital’s robust infrastructure and administrative efficiency. This is not only an exceptional achievement but also our medical commitment to every patient seeking our care during emergencies, with all necessary medical supplies in place to ensure patient safety."
Prof. Dr. Essam El-Shimy, Director of the Endoscopy Unit, highlighted the clinical importance of these urgent interventions:
"The patients we treated were suffering from severe biliary obstructions and infections that could have led to sepsis if delayed. Performing this number of complex procedures in record time reflects the seamless coordination between the endoscopy team, anesthesia department, and radiology technicians, placing the institute among the world-class institutions in crisis management and rapid intervention."
The institute extended heartfelt thanks to the "heroes of the shifts" who sacrificed their holiday to serve patients, including the endoscopy team led by Dr. Ahmed Idris, the endoscopy nursing staff, radiology technicians, and the anesthesia team with Dr. Mohamed Ghanem, Dr. Dina, and their nursing staff, recognizing their vital role in ensuring patient stability and successful procedures.
The National Liver Institute, Menoufia University, continues to maintain maximum readiness across all departments—including emergency, intensive care, and endoscopy—throughout the holiday period.
