About the department

Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry

Pharmaceutical Chemistry department is one of the main departments in Faculty of Pharmacy, Menoufia University. Pharmaceutical chemistry department teaches two main subjects which are Pharmaceutical organic chemistry and Pharmaceutical chemistry. The department is concerned with academic preparation of both undergraduate and graduate students to participate effectively in the worldwide modern drug discovery as well as drug design, drug synthesis and drug analysis.Pharmaceutical chemistry department teaches different curricula that cover the basic Pharmaceutical chemistry science including synthetic pathways of different healthcare products, their classification and action at their respective targets and structure-activity relationship. It also provides the student with the knowledge and skills regarding different analytical techniques needed to analyze different drugs in different pharmaceutical dosage forms as well as in biological fluids.

Pharmaceutical organic chemistry

Pharmaceutical organic chemistry has played the lead role in generating novel drug candidateseither by total synthesis or through modification of naturally occurring compounds and in providing economical routes to the final products. As well as studying the identification of their composition using the means of spectroscopy, in addition to teaching a course in stereochemistry interested in studying the structural composition of organic compounds and the relationship between the spatial position and the biological effect of organic compounds used in the field of pharmacy. The role played by Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistryas a central science in the pharmaceutical industry continues to be one of the main drivers in the drug discovery process.

Pharmaceutical chemistry

PharmaceuticalChemistry is a branch of chemistry that deals with synthetic organic chemistry along with drug discovery starting from target identification, finding a lead compound, structure-activity relationship investigations to lead optimization, using different technologies such as In-silico screening and high throughput screening. Also, it involves the study of different analytical techniques needed to analyze different drugs.
