25 Scientific Sessions and 70 Lectures on the Second Day of the First International Conference of Scientific Departments at the National Liver Institute, Menoufia University
Under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed El-Qased, President of Menoufia University, the second day of the First International Conference of Scientific Departments at the National Liver Institute discussed the latest advancements in liver surgery, transplantation, radiology, gastroenterology, and endoscopy. The event featured 25 scientific sessions with over 70 lectures covering various specialized topics.
Dr. Ahmed El-Qased praised the activities and workshops of the second day, highlighting the high level of engagement and attendance from medical professionals across Egyptian universities and the Ministry of Health. He also commended the participation of numerous international experts and doctors, reflecting the national and international standing of the National Liver Institute.
Dr. El-Qased expressed pride in the major medical achievements at the institute and university hospitals, emphasizing that the institute is a key pillar of excellence at Menoufia University. He reaffirmed the university administration's continuous support, ensuring the availability of all necessary resources and equipment to enhance medical services and achieve further progress in all specialties.
He also emphasized that liver transplantation and complex surgical procedures have become routine at the institute, demonstrating its readiness to handle such cases by providing comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services. He praised the expertise of the institute’s medical teams, aligning with the university’s strategic plan for developing and optimizing its human and material resources.
Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute and Conference President, stated that the scientific sessions on the second day covered liver surgery, hepatology, gastroenterology, microbiology, advanced endoscopy, and the latest treatments for liver tumors, ulcerative colitis, and radiology.
The conference also discussed new approaches to treating Hepatitis B and C, showcasing the institute’s advanced experience in liver transplantation and comparing it with international centers. The event was attended by numerous universities and international experts.
Additionally, the conference addressed chronic diseases associated with liver disease, such as renal dysfunction, diabetes, pediatric liver diseases, pediatric endoscopy, infection control, and the application of artificial intelligence in medicine.
Dr. Iman Abdel-Samie, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Conference Vice President, announced that the best 14 research papers were selected for presentation out of 60 submissions, with the top 5 studies receiving awards.
Dr. Ahmed Attia, Executive Director of the Liver Institute Hospital, highlighted discussions on infection control and its role in protecting liver patients and transplant recipients from hospital-acquired infections, particularly given their immunocompromised state. The conference also emphasized the importance of microbiology lab quality in ensuring accurate diagnoses and rapid treatment decisions, especially for fungal infections, which are becoming more prevalent and challenging to treat.

Prior to the main conference, several workshops were held to enhance medical practices and facilitate knowledge exchange among physicians and specialists. These workshops covered:

The conference was held under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, and Dr. Ahmed El-Qased, President of Menoufia University, with the participation of Dr. Yasser Hatata, President of Fayoum University, along with several university deans, former institute deans, faculty members, and medical experts from various specialties.
