Study Objectives and Findings:
The dissertation aimed to explore methods for diagnosing true pancreatic cysts, distinguishing between their various types, and identifying which cases require surgical intervention versus those that only need follow-up.
The study demonstrated that MRI, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), and cyst sampling provide higher sensitivity and accuracy compared to ultrasound and CT scans. Additionally, it revealed that postoperative complications do not vary significantly based on the type of cyst.
Recommendations:
The dissertation recommended relying on MRI and endoscopic ultrasound with cyst sampling for an accurate diagnosis to determine which patients require surgery and which can be managed with regular monitoring.
