The National Liver Institute Advances Toward New Horizons in Defining the Characteristics of Pancreatic-Biliary Tumors

Researcher Mohamed Saad Saad Saleh conducted a Master’s thesis in Hepatology and Gastroenterology, titled:
"Characteristics of Pancreatic and Biliary Tract Tumors in a Group of Patients."

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Akl Fouad Radi, Professor and Head of the Hepatology and Gastroenterology Department at the Institute.

Prof. Dr. Maha Mohamed El-Sebaaoui, Professor of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at the Institute.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Samah Mostafa Abu Qoura, Assistant Professor of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Medical Imaging at the Institute.

Dr. Yehia Ahmed Mortada Fayad, Lecturer of Liver, Pancreas, and Biliary Surgery at the Institute.

Study Objectives and Findings:

The study aimed to determine the true incidence and characteristics of malignant pancreatic-biliary tumors.

Conducted on 600 cases, the research findings revealed:

454 cases of pancreatic tumors

146 cases of biliary tumors


This study provides valuable epidemiological and clinical insights into pancreatic-biliary malignancies (PBM) in Egypt, emphasizing the urgent need for early detection, the clinical significance of CA19-9, and the necessity of personalized treatment strategies.

Recommendations:

The thesis recommended conducting larger-scale studies with extended follow-up periods to validate the findings and strengthen clinical conclusions.
