INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS

1- Ethical/legal considerations: A submitted manuscript must be an original contribution not previously published (except as an

abstract or preliminary report), must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and, if accepted, must not be published

elsewhere in similar form, in any language, without the consent of MMJ. If the work being submitted has been published previously in

another language, please disclose this information with the submission of the manuscript.

2- Authorship: To qualify for authorship, a contributor must have fulfilled each of the following criteria: 1) substantial contributions

to conception and design, or acquisition of data, or analysis and interpretation of data; 2) drafting the article or revising it critically for

important intellectual content; and 3) final approval of the version to be published. All persons designated as authors should qualify

for authorship, and all those who qualify should be listed.

Each person listed as an author is expected to have participated in the study to a significant extent. Although the editors and

referees make every effort to ensure the validity of published manuscripts, the final responsibility rests with the authors, not with the

Journal, its editors, or the publisher.

3- Conflicts of interest: Authors must state all possible conflicts of interest in the manuscript, including financial, consultant,

institutional and other relationships that might lead to bias or a conflict of interest. If there is no conflict of interest, this should also be

explicitly stated as none declared.

4- Patient anonymity and informed consent: It is the author’s responsibility to ensure that a patient’s anonymity be carefully

protected and to verify that any experimental investigation with human subjects reported in the manuscript was performed with

informed consent and following all the guidelines for experimental investigation with human subjects required by the institution(s)

with which all the authors are affiliated and with the Helsinki Declaration. Animal studies should be carried out within recognised

guidelines for the care of laboratory animals.

5- IRB Approval: When reporting experiments on human or animals, indicate whether the procedures followed were in accordance

with the ethical standards of the responsible committee.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT

Manuscripts that do not adhere to the following instructions will be returned to the corresponding author for technical revision

before undergoing peer review.

assimilation into the medical literature, abstracts should be organized according to the outlines listed under the Article Types

section.

2- Reviews and Meta-Analyses:

Objective: Brief, clear statement of the goals of the review.

Data analysis: Specify (Data Sources: Specify database, search methodology, languages covered, and time frame,

Conclusions

Length: As a rule of thumb, this limits contributions to 1-2 images and less than 3 typewritten pages (double-spaced).

Key Words, Running Heads: On the same abstract page, list in alphabetical order, key words (maximum of seven) for indexing,

using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) from Index Medicus, and provide a running head of three or four words to be used as the right-hand page running heads in the typeset article.

Text: Manuscripts should be formatted according to the American Medical Association Manual of Style (9th ed.). See Article Categories for additional formatting requirements.

K Number all pages, beginning with the title page as #1.

K Double-space the manuscript (including references, figure legends, and tables) with minimum 1-inch margins and 12 fonts Times New Roman.

K State all measurements in metric units, and if desired, add English units in parentheses.

K Begin each table on a separate page.

K Organize the manuscript according to the article categories into:

Original articles: Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgment (grants and research support) and

References. Authors are required to target a manuscript length of 3500 words or less (this count is for the main text only; it

excludes the abstract, references, acknowledgments, figures, and tables).

Reviews and Meta-Analyses: Introduction & Objectives, Data analysis, Findings, Conclusions Acknowledgment (grants and

research support) and References.

Case Studies: Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, Conclusion, References. Authors are required to target a manuscript length

of (1500) words or less (introduction–conclusion) and References: 5–10.

References: The authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references. Key the references (double-spaced) at the end of the

manuscript. Cite the references in text in the order of appearance (in numbers). Cite unpublished data—such as papers submitted

but not yet accepted for publication and personal communications, including e-mail communications—in parentheses in the text. If

there are more than six authors, name only the first three authors and then use et al. Refer to the List of Journals Indexed in Index

Medicus for abbreviations of journal names, or access the list at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/tsd/serials/lji.html. Sample references are

DIGITAL ARTWORK GUIDELINE CHECKLIST

Here is the basics to have in place before submission:

K Artwork should be saved as TIFF files types. Figures cannot be embedded in Microsoft programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) as

this decreases resolution size.

K Artwork is created as the actual size (or slightly larger) it will appear in the journal.

K Diagrams, drawings, graphs, and other line art must be vector or saved at a resolution of at least 1200 dpi.

K Photographs, radiographs and other halftone images must be saved at a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

K Photographs and radiographs with text must be saved as postscript or at a resolution of at least 600 dpi.

K Each figure must be saved and submitted as a separate file.

K Figures should not be embedded in the manuscript text file.

Color figures: The journal accepts for publication color figures that will enhance an article. Authors who submit color figures will receive an estimate of the cost for color reproduction. If they decide not to pay for color reproduction, they can request that the

figures be converted to black and white at no charge.

Tables: Create tables using the table creating and editing feature of your word processing software (e.g.,Word, etc.). Do not use

Excel or comparable spreadsheet programs. Put tables on separate pages after figure legends page and number them in order of their mention in the text. Provide a brief title for each table, and define any abbreviations in table footnotes.

Reprints: Authors will receive a reprint order form and a price list with the page proofs. Reprint requests should be faxed to the

publisher with the corrected proofs, if possible.

Permissions: For permission and/or rights to use content, for which the copyright holder is the journal, please send an
