Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, and Major General Ibrahim Abu Limon, Governor of Menoufia, today conducted an inspection tour of the university hospitals and the university land allocated for the establishment of the new Oncology Institute and Medical City, within the framework of joint cooperation between the two parties to improve the health and treatment services provided to citizens.

Dr. Ahmed El-Kased confirmed that the university is taking steady and clear steps according to the university's strategic plan, which is in line with Egypt's 2030 vision to achieve the goals of sustainable development and keep pace with the fourth generation of universities in Egypt on all axes and various educational, research, and community service trends, directing his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Higher Education, the Governor of Menoufia, and members of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the governorate for their support for the university's efforts towards development, progress, and community service, and their efforts to achieve the dream that we have strived to achieve, which is to establish the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University as an integrated educational and research institute, with a hospital attached to it for the treatment of tumors.
The university president announced that the Cabinet's approval to establish the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University for research and treatment purposes, with a hospital attached to it for treating tumors, which is considered the first stage of establishing the medical city, comes within the framework of the state's orientation towards expanding the establishment of specialized medical centers and developing university hospitals, as the establishment and operation of the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University entails meeting the needs of the university and the surrounding areas and meeting the needs of the health sector, in addition to serving the community by developing medical services in all specialties, as the institute aims to provide: preventive and rehabilitative medical services, therapeutic medical services, educational and training medical services, and research and advisory medical services. Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of the University, explained that the Oncology Hospital at Menoufia University is the only hospital for treating tumors in Menoufia Governorate and serves the neighboring governorates (Beheira, Qalyubia, Gharbia). It was established in 1998 to provide a range of services needed by tumor patients through the various units in the hospital, which provides medical services to approximately 40,000 tumor patients annually, according to 2022 statistics. He added that due to the increasing number of visitors to the Oncology Hospital at university hospitals and within the framework of improving the health service provided by university hospitals, the university seeks during the next stage to establish the Oncology Institute at the university as the first stage of establishing the Medical City at Menoufia University. It is an academic institute that provides educational research services, in addition to an integrated hospital to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to tumor patients, and the educational role in prevention and early detection of tumors. The institute includes six departments that work in integration to serve and treat tumor patients, namely: the Oncology Department, the Oncology Surgery Department, the Hematology Department, the Nuclear Medicine Department, the Medical Statistics and Scientific Research Department, and the Tumor Biology Department. The envoy pointed out that the target is to increase the bed capacity by (400 internal beds), (40 intensive care beds) and (40 intermediate care beds, (6) tumor surgery operating rooms to accommodate the largest number of patients in the governorate and neighboring governorates. The medical services provided within the university's Oncology Institute will be provided with the latest devices and modern technologies in tumor treatment. As for the research and academic side, the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University will grant academic scientific certificates. The institute will also provide practical training for doctors in oncology specialties, with the granting of master's and doctoral degrees in oncology, tumor surgery and nuclear medicine. Major General Ibrahim Abu Limon, Governor of Menoufia, expressed his happiness with the issuance of the Cabinet's decision to establish the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University, an achievement not only for the university but for the governorate as a whole and a hope for cancer patients in their treatment journey, stressing his full support at all levels to achieve the university's goals and its tireless efforts to serve the community and perform its educational, research and therapeutic mission, noting that he has been keen since the beginning of the stages of establishing the medical city to provide all means of assistance to obtain the land and facilitate all necessary procedures to begin achieving this dream, which It comes within the framework of the political leadership's orientations to develop health and treatment care, advance the health system and provide distinguished medical service to citizens by developing the infrastructure of university hospitals to keep pace with the development in accordance with the goals and axes of the new republic and Egypt's Vision 2030.

The Governor of Menoufia also praised the level of construction and new equipment witnessed by university hospitals to develop medical, treatment and research services.

The tour was attended by Dr. Sobhi Sharaf, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Nasser Abdel Bari, Vice President of the University for Education and Students Affairs, Dr. Ekramy Gamal, Secretary General of the University, Dr. Mohamed El-Naamani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, Dr. Mohamed Abu El-Fotouh, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Mohamed Sabry, Executive Director of University Hospitals and Directors of University Hospitals.
