Under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, the Department of Rheumatology, Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University, held its second scientific conference entitled "New Developments in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Rheumatic and Immune Diseases" under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Al-Noamani, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Mohamed Abu Al-Fotouh, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Graduate Studies, and headed by Dr. Samar Jaber, Head of the Department, and in the presence of a large number of professors and doctors of physical medicine and rheumatology from Egyptian universities.
Dr. Ahmed El-Kased stressed the importance of the Department of Physical Medicine, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Medicine and university hospitals, praising its role in keeping pace with modern developments in the field of diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic and immune diseases, joint diseases and the musculoskeletal system in adults and children, as well as the treatment of sports injuries, in addition to medical rehabilitation for patients through an advanced unit for physical therapy in the department that includes the latest therapeutic devices and diagnostic tools, and an elite group of faculty members and researchers working to provide a distinguished educational service to college students and graduate studies.
The mission added that the department helps improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and raise their level of functional efficiency to the maximum possible degree and qualify them to participate in normal life.
The university president praised the conference and the scientific research it discusses, stressing the importance of joint research in cooperation with different departments to reach the optimal treatment for patients.
Dr. Samar Jaber, head of the department and head of the conference, also indicated that the conference discussed, through 4 scientific sessions, 13 lectures and scientific research on the latest in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, including discussing the relationship between osteoporosis and heart disease and the latest in emergency lupus cases, in addition to the latest in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and the latest in the treatment of joint osteoarthritis, and the factors affecting the activity of rheumatic diseases. The conference also discussed the latest in the treatment of Sjogren's syndrome and the factors affecting the activity of rheumatic diseases and the latest in the treatment of psoriasis and Behcet's immune disease, in addition to discussing the relationship between the liver and rheumatic diseases.
Dr. Amira Tariq Al-Shanwani, conference secretary and lecturer in the department, indicated that the conference recommended the necessity of a clinical examination of the patient to differentiate between diseases Various rheumatic diseases, with emphasis on the use of modern laboratory and imaging tests, and the need to rely on modern medicines such as biological and targeted drugs, taking into account the reasons for their use and the recommendations of international organizations for their use.
The conference activities also witnessed the honoring of Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of the University, for his great efforts in supporting the college and university hospitals and improving the health service provided to patients in the governorate.
Dr. Mohamed Al-Noamani, Dean of the College, was also honored.
The conference was attended by professors from the department, Dr. Samar Jaber, Dr. Dina Al-Sharaki, Dr. Maha Salman, Dr. Amira Al-Shanwani, and professors from the universities of Mansoura, Zagazig, Tanta, Ain Shams, and Mansoura.
