Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University and Professor of Oncology Surgery, chaired the discussion committee of a master's thesis at the Faculty of Medicine entitled "The effectiveness of the protective mesh in preventing parastomal hernia in the construction of the end of the colostomy" submitted by Dr. Mohamed Hesham Fayed to obtain a master's degree in general surgery.
Dr. Ahmed El-Kased pointed out that this study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a protective mesh in preventing sternum split in the construction of the end of the colostomy.
Dr. Ahmed El-Kased added that colorectal cancer affects about 140,000 annually, making it the third most common type of cancer among men and women. Colorectal cancer is often treated with surgery to remove the tumor, and possibly chemotherapy and radiation.
The study showed that the protective mesh can significantly reduce the risk of laparoscopic hernia after perineal resection of colorectal cancers, and reduce clinical rates of postoperative complications.
Emphasizing the importance of the study and the need to conduct more research in this field.
