Under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, the activities of the second day of the first international conference of scientific departments at the National Liver Institute at the university discussed the new liver surgeries and transplants, radiology, digestive system diseases and endoscopy through 25 scientific sessions that included more than one scientific lecture.

Prof. Ahmed El-Kased praised the activities of the second day of the conference and its scientific workshops, praising the interaction and heavy attendance witnessed by the conference sessions from all medical specialties at Egyptian universities and the Ministry of Health, in addition to the attendance of a large number of foreign experts and doctors, which reflects the position of the National Liver Institute locally and internationally.

Prof. Ahmed El-Kased expressed Menoufia University's pride in the major medical achievements made by the National Liver Institute and university hospitals, stressing that the institute is one of the most important points of distinction of the university, stressing the university administration's continued support for it and providing all the necessary capabilities and equipment that contribute to raising the efficiency of work and achieving more medical achievements in all medical specialties.

El-Kased stressed that liver transplantation and performing rare and complex medical surgeries have become common at the Liver Institute, and confirms its readiness to receive such cases, deal with them and provide all diagnostic and therapeutic services for them, praising the efforts of the medical staff who have advanced expertise that proceeds according to the university's strategic plan to develop and maximize its material and human resources.

Prof. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute and President of the Conference, added that the scientific sessions on the second day of the conference discussed liver surgeries, hepatology, digestive system, microbiology, advanced endoscopy, and new developments in the treatment of liver tumors, ulcerative colitis, and radiology.

The sessions also discussed the latest treatment of hepatitis C and B, and the conference reviewed the institute's advanced experience in liver transplantation and compared it with the experiences of international centers, with the attendance of a large number of universities and foreign experts.

He pointed out that the conference also discussed the latest developments in the treatment of chronic diseases associated with liver diseases, such as renal failure and diabetes, and the latest developments in pediatric diseases, pediatric endoscopy, liver and pediatric diseases, infection control, and the use of artificial intelligence in medical fields.

Prof. Iman Abdel Samee, the institute's deputy for postgraduate studies and vice president of the conference, indicated that an evaluation was made of the submitted research and the best 14 researches were selected for presentation at the conference from among 60 submitted researches. The final evaluation resulted in the selection of the best 5 researches and the presentation of awards to them.

Dr. Ahmed Attia, Executive Director of the Liver Institute Hospital, explained that the conference discussed the importance of infection control and its role in protecting liver patients and liver transplant patients from hospital infections and post-operative infections, especially since the condition of this category of patients is critical due to their health condition and due to their taking immunosuppressants. The importance of the quality of microbiology laboratories and the role of the microbiology laboratory in accurate diagnosis and the speed of making the appropriate treatment decision and diagnosing fungal infections due to the spread of fungal infections and the difficulty of treatment were also discussed. Workshops were held prior to the conference as part of the National Liver Institute’s keenness to improve medical practices and enhance the exchange of expertise between doctors and specialists, which contributes to improving the treatment services provided to patients. These workshops included a workshop on the various techniques for removing liver tumors, whether by traditional surgery or using an endoscope, a specialized workshop on thermal cauterization to treat benign thyroid tumors and liver tumors, a workshop on in-hospital patient nutrition, with a focus on nutrition before surgical operations, a workshop on KPI’s in Healthcare and GAHAR standards to ensure improving the quality of medical care, and a workshop on methods of extracting ribonucleic acid (RNA) and how to multiply it, which helps in measuring it and using it in medical research. The conference was held under the patronage of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, and in the presence of Prof.Yasser Hatata, President of Fayoum University, Prof. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the National Liver Institute, Dr. Hani Abdel Majeed, Dr. Iman Abdel Samee, Deputy Deans of the Liver Institute, Dr. Hossam Soliman and Dr. Mohamed El-Husseini, Conference Secretaries, Dr. Ahmed El-Sayed Attia, Executive Director of the Liver Institute Hospital, Dr. Islam Ayoub, Director of the Hospital, and Dr. Heba El-Balshy, Conference Coordinator, in addition to the active participation of a large number of deans of the university’s faculties, former deans of the institute, a large number of faculty members, liver doctors, and various medical specialties.
