Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation for the efforts of Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, during his visit to the university and his participation in laying the foundation stone for the expansion of the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University, to be a pioneering step in combating cancer, improving health care, and enhancing national efforts to combat cancer, especially in light of the increasing number of patients visiting university hospitals, as the Oncology Institute contributes to providing advanced technologies for diagnosing cancer in its early stages, which increases the effectiveness of treatment and improves the chances of recovery. The institute is also considered a center for scientific research in the field of oncology, as it contributes to developing new treatments and a deeper understanding of the causes of cancer and methods of prevention.
The President of the University stressed that establishing an oncology institute is not just an addition to the health infrastructure, but rather an investment in the health of society by providing specialized care, enhancing scientific research, and health awareness. The institute also contributes to combating cancer and improving the lives of patients and their families. This institute is also an essential step towards a better health future, as it can reduce the spread of cancer and treat it more effectively, in implementation of the goals of sustainable development and the orientations of the Egyptian state and political leadership towards Expanding the establishment of specialized medical centers and developing university hospitals, in light of Egypt's Vision 2030, and the support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and his great interest in the education and health file, and launching the comprehensive health insurance system in the Arab Republic of Egypt, which aims to provide comprehensive health coverage for all citizens according to the highest quality standards through an integrated health insurance system capable of achieving comprehensive health and preventive coverage, in addition to providing treatment, and improving the quality of services provided to all citizens.
El-Kased added that the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University is a strategic step towards improving specialized health care and developing scientific research in the field of oncology, as this project reflects the university's commitment to meeting the needs of patients and enhancing the ability of the health system to face the challenges related to tumors, which makes it a valuable addition to the health and academic sector in Egypt and the governorate. The institute also represents the first stage of the stages of establishing the medical city, the biggest dream that is being worked on to achieve to meet the needs of the governorate and surrounding areas and the requirements of the health sector, in addition to serving the community by developing medical services; in all specialties.
Prof. Hossam El-Fol, Dean of the Institute, explained that the Oncology Institute at Menoufia University, in addition to an integrated hospital to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to cancer patients, will also provide an educational role on prevention and early detection of tumors. The institute includes 7 specialized departments: pediatric oncology and hematology, oncology surgery, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine, oncology and hematology, oncology biology, medical statistics and cancer epidemiology, and palliative medicine department. The institute's bed capacity will also be increased to 400 internal beds, 40 intensive care beds, and 40 intermediate care beds, in addition to equipping 6 operating rooms and 100 chemotherapy chairs, and 4 radiotherapy stations. The institute also offers a master's degree in the following specialties: oncology and hematology, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine, epidemiology and cancer control, pediatric oncology and hematology, and palliative medicine, and a doctorate degree in the following specialties: oncology surgery, oncology and hematology, radiation oncology, oncology biology, cancer epidemiology and control, and nuclear medicine. Dr. Hossam El-Fol stressed that the institute provides an educational level based on international quality standards and follows international educational strategies, which makes the certificates granted by the institute have weight not only at the local level but also at the international level, which provides distinguished job opportunities in the specializations offered by the institute. The institute also contributes to training doctors, nurses and technicians in the field of oncology, which enhances the efficiency of the workforce in this precise specialization.
