Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, Professor of Oncology Surgery and Member of the Egyptian Society of Oncology Surgery, participated in the activities of the 16th International Conference of the Department of Oncology at the Faculty of Medicine, Assiut University, which was held in Luxor, under the title "New in Tumor Treatment (2024)", under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed Al-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, and the supervision of Prof. Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals, and Prof. Samir Shehata, Professor of Oncology and Chairman of the Conference.
The conference was also attended by Prof. Hussein Khaled, Professor of Oncology at the National Cancer Institute and former Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Nasser Abdel Bary, Vice President of Menoufia University for Education and Student Affairs and Professor of Oncology, and more than 200 researchers and doctors specializing in oncology from Egypt, Arab and European countries, in addition to a number of prominent figures in the field of oncology and surgery.
Prof. Ahmed El-Kased pointed out that the conference stressed the importance of activating the role of the multidisciplinary committee in treating cancer patients to ensure that they receive the best medical care, while saving time and cost, and the necessity of unifying treatment protocols for cancer patients in all university oncology centers and institutes and the Ministry of Health in Egypt, to ensure equal treatment opportunities for all patients, stressing the important role of universities in reducing the spread of tumors and providing optimal treatment for patients, pointing out the importance of the role of businessmen and civil society organizations in supporting patients by providing the necessary medicines and medical devices.
Prof. Ahmed El-Kased explained that the conference discussed, through 31 scientific sessions, the latest scientific research in the field of oncology, with a focus on immunotherapy and targeted therapy for breast, digestive and liver tumors. The treatment and diagnostic protocols were also updated to suit the capabilities of the health system in Egypt.
El-Kased added that Menoufia University is striving to provide distinguished diagnostic and therapeutic services to the people of Menoufia Governorate and neighboring governorates and to expand the provision of medical services by establishing new medical centers and increasing the capacity of university hospitals, explaining that the university recently witnessed a visit by Prof. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education, during which the foundation stone was laid for the expansion project of the Oncology Institute at a cost of 1.3 billion. It is an academic institute that provides educational research services, in addition to an integrated hospital to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to cancer patients. It also provides an educational role in the prevention and early detection of tumors.
This is in addition to laying the foundation stone for the Specialized Surgery Hospital, and opening new outpatient clinics for university hospitals and outpatient clinics at the Faculty of Dentistry.
