Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University and Professor of Surgical Oncology, performed a delicate and complex surgical procedure on a patient at the Cancer Institute suffering from a cancerous tumor in the jaw. The surgery was led by a surgical team that included Prof. Hossam El-Fol, Dean of the University's Cancer Institute; Prof. Ahmed Sabry, Professor of Surgical Oncology; and Abdel Aziz Saqr, Lecturer of Surgery. Prof. Salah Hegazy, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, and a number of doctors from the faculty also witnessed the surgery. This is part of the cooperation between the institute and the faculty, which represents a comprehensive model for caring for cancer patients, especially those suffering from tumors in the facial and jaw area or those requiring chemotherapy or radiation therapy to improve oral and dental health.
Prof. Ahmed El-Kased explained that during the surgery, a tumor was removed from the back of the lower jaw, along with the radical removal of the right lower jaw and lymph nodes from the neck. A muscle flap was also taken from the chest to reconstruct the face. This is a major and delicate surgical procedure that requires precise surgical techniques to ensure the best results. It also represents one of the surgical challenges in the field of oncological surgery, combining anatomical precision with functional aesthetics. The success of this operation confirms that the University Oncology Institute is capable of competing with the largest centers specializing in maxillofacial surgery.
The University President stated that this surgery represents a development in the field of maxillofacial surgery, a model of cooperation between various medical specialties, and a beacon of hope for patients requiring such complex interventions. He confirmed that the patient is in stable condition and is being monitored around the clock. A rehabilitation program will be initiated, including speech therapy, physical therapy, and psychological follow-up. He praised the quality of the medical team at the Institute, noting that the University's College of Dentistry will participate in jaw rehabilitation and the installation of the necessary dental implants for the patient after recovery from surgery. The university president emphasized that the university's Oncology Institute is an integrated medical facility for cancer treatment and specialized surgical procedures. It is a fundamental pillar of the healthcare system, playing a crucial role in diagnosing and treating cancer using the latest medical and surgical methods, providing comprehensive treatment for patients through accurate diagnosis using the latest advanced technologies, offering comprehensive treatment programs (surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy) under one roof, and regularly following up with patients to ensure optimal health outcomes. The Oncology Institute also provides advanced treatment and precise surgeries for cancer patients, contributing to increased recovery rates and improved quality of life.
Prof. Hossam El-Fol, Dean of the Oncology Institute, added that the institute includes a distinguished group of doctors and surgeons who perform tumor resection surgeries with the highest standards of precision. The institute also has a surgical team specialized in various types of tumors, working in collaboration with anesthesiologists and post-operative care teams to ensure a safe recovery. The institute also aims to develop new surgical methods through clinical research in collaboration with specialized centers to train junior doctors in modern techniques in the field of oncology surgery. He emphasized that the institute represents a fundamental pillar in research and medical efforts to combat cancer.
