Prof. Ahmed Farag El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, announced the success of a medical team from the Department of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine in performing a cerebral catheterization, saving the life of a 70-year-old patient suffering from a severe stroke resulting from a complete occlusion of the left carotid artery. He noted that the university hospitals received the patient in critical condition and transferred her to the Stroke Unit. Thorough examinations were performed, revealing that the patient was suffering from a complete occlusion of the left carotid artery and severe stenosis of the right carotid artery, which posed a double risk to her life and threatened her with severe brain injury or death. Rapid intervention was performed to save the patient's life.
Prof. Ahmed El-Kased thanked the medical team in the Department of Neurology.
He also thanked the leaders and medical teams of doctors, nurses, technicians, and workers at the university hospitals for their dedication and outstanding contributions in fulfilling their noble mission and the tireless efforts they make throughout the year to alleviate the suffering of patients.
The medical intervention was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Mohamed Fahmy El-Noamani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals; Dr. Mohamed Sabry Ammar, Executive Director of University Hospitals; and Dr. Aktham El-Imam, Head of the Department of Neurology.
Prof. Mohamed El-Noamani, Dean of the Faculty, indicated that the medical team, under the direct supervision of Dr. Ahmed El-Basyouni and Dr. Mustafa Malik, made an urgent decision to perform a therapeutic catheterization intervention. The medical team placed a stent in the right carotid artery to ensure normal blood flow and reduce the risk of sudden deterioration. He noted that the operation was a complete success, and the patient left the hospital in stable condition after follow-up and treatment in the Stroke Unit.
The Dean of the Faculty praised this great achievement, which reflects the extent of development witnessed by university hospital departments and the high precision in dealing with complex and critical cases through specialized medical teams who possess the skills and experience required to handle such critical interventions.
