Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, announced the start of operating the positron emission tomography (PET/CT) device at the National Liver Institute and receiving cases, noting that the device is one of the most powerful atomic scanning devices in Egypt, as it is equipped with specifications that make it one of the most accurate devices in diagnosing and monitoring tumors in the body. The National Liver Institute device also contains the fluoro feature, which enables doctors to perform interventional procedures such as taking samples at the same time as the examination, adding that the institute receives health insurance cases and treatment at the state's expense and patients wishing to undergo examination with the device.

Dr. Ahmed El-Kased pointed out that the examination is performed with a 128 CT scanner, the largest in Egypt, and with the HD feature that enables the device to reach an accuracy of 2 mm to diagnose tumors in early stages and very small sizes, explaining that the radiology department at the institute works according to smart programs to read diagnostic examinations, which enables the integration of atomic scanning examination with magnetic resonance imaging to reach the highest levels of efficiency.

El-Kased pointed out that the Radiology Department or Diagnostic and Interventional Medical Imaging at the National Liver Institute at Menoufia University is one of the distinguished scientific and medical institutions because the department contains the latest medical devices and multiple diagnostic and interventional radiology units, as well as because this department plays an important role in serving patients in various diagnostic and therapeutic fields and serving doctors in research, educational and academic fields, whether within it or at the level of Egypt and the Arab world.

Dr. Osama Hegazy, Dean of the Institute, also pointed out that the Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Department at the Institute is equipped with advanced devices to serve patients in the governorate and the Delta. The department serves more than 50,000 cases annually between diagnostic examinations and interventional treatment. The reports are written by a distinguished and highly experienced group of radiology professors at the university. Dr. Mohamed El-Husseini, head of the department, explained that the department performs thermal cauterization for secondary lung tumors and those spread from liver and colon tumors. It is an interventional procedure using a needle inserted through the skin and then directed by CT scan until it reaches the inside of the tumor, resulting in high heat that burns the tumor, and performing therapeutic catheterization for liver tumors known as chemotherapy arterial injection for liver tumors, as well as treating obstructive jaundice resulting from liver or pancreatic tumors or gallstones and bile ducts either through external drainage or internal external drainage of bile or installing bile duct stents, as well as treating cases of splenic stenosis and blockage or narrowing of the hepatic veins and arteries and installing the necessary stents and intervening to treat increased portal vein pressure that results in ascites.
