Dr. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, attended the regular meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, headed by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the presence of Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Council and members of the Council, which was held today at the headquarters of Al-Azhar University.
The President of the University indicated that the Council congratulated Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on the renewal of the political leadership's confidence in him, wishing him continued success and guidance. The Council also congratulated Dr. Hossam Othman on his appointment as Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Innovation and Scientific Research Affairs.
During the meeting, the Minister of Higher Education confirmed the readiness of the main coordination office at Ain Shams University to start its work, as well as the readiness of computer labs at public universities; to help students during the electronic coordination period; to join public universities and institutes, with the provision of qualified guides to assist students throughout the coordination period.
Dr. Ahmed El-Kased explained that the council, in its session today, approved the time map for the new academic year 2024/2025, as studies for the new year begin at universities and institutes on September 28, and studies continue in the first semester for 14 weeks, ending on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The final exams for the first semester begin on Saturday, January 4, 2025, and end on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The mid-year vacation begins on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and ends on Thursday, February 6, 2025. The second semester begins on Saturday, February 8, 2025, and studies continue for 16 weeks, ending on Thursday, May 29, 2025. The second semester exams are held during the month of June 2025, according to the nature of the study and exams in each college. The university president added that the council approved opening registration for diploma and technical institute exams for students who obtained a diploma from technical secondary schools (three-year system), technical secondary schools (five-year system), and technical institutes (two-year system after high school) for admission to the faculties of (Commerce - Engineering - Law - Agriculture) at government universities for the academic year 2024/2025, starting from Thursday, August 1, according to the exam schedules announced on the website of the Supreme Council of Universities for the relevant faculties through the following link: https://scu.eg/ .
The council also approved the formation of the Supreme Coordination Committee for the academic year 2024/2025.
During the meeting, the Minister praised the achievements made in the international university rankings, including the inclusion of 27 Egyptian universities among the best international universities listed in the US.NEWS American ranking in its new version for 2024, as well as the inclusion of 15 Egyptian universities in the Dutch Leiden ranking in its new version for 2024, and the inclusion of 51 Egyptian universities among the best international universities listed in the Webometrics global ranking of reference citations in its July 2024 version. He also stressed the importance of universities continuing to provide support to researchers to increase scientific publishing in prestigious scientific journals; to raise the ranking of Egyptian universities in the major international rankings.
