Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, President of Monufia University, reviewed the architectural designs for the planned expansions of the Oncology Institute and the general master plan of the University Hospitals. The designs were presented by Prof. Hani El-Hashimy, Director of El-Hashimy Engineering Consultancy Office, along with his accompanying delegation, during an extended meeting attended by Ms. Suad Bayoumi, Secretary-General of the University; Prof. Ahmed Sabry, Dean of the Oncology Institute; Prof. Essam Helal, Engineering Advisor to the University President; Ashraf El-Wazir, Director-General of the Institute; Eng. Randa Fawzy, Director-General of the General Administration for Engineering Affairs; in addition to a number of specialists and technical staff.
During the meeting, the University President examined a detailed presentation of the new designs, which include expansions to the University’s Oncology Institute—namely the construction of a northern building, the upgrading of the southern building, and the redesign of the general site of the University Hospitals. These expansions aim to enhance the institute’s infrastructure, increase its capacity, and equip it with state-of-the-art medical technologies in line with international standards. He noted that these expansions represent a continuation of the development of Monufia University’s Oncology Institute, which seeks to provide comprehensive services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer according to the latest global protocols, supported by advanced technologies to ensure diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy. He added that these expansions constitute the first phase of establishing the Medical City at Monufia University.
Prof. El-Kased also reviewed the master plan of the University Hospitals, which includes future expansions such as the construction of new buildings, restructuring of internal roads and movement pathways, and the development of entrances and exits. These steps aim to enhance operational efficiency and ensure the highest levels of safety and comfort for patients and visitors.
The University President emphasized that this initiative forms part of the University’s strategic plan to elevate the healthcare system and support university hospitals as a leading medical, educational, and research center that provides advanced services to the community. He stressed the importance of adhering to the highest quality standards during implementation and complying with the designated timelines, praising the efforts of the engineering and administrative teams involved in preparing the master plan.
He further affirmed that the University is committed to advancing its development projects in alignment with Egypt’s national vision and the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who prioritizes education and healthcare, and with the implementation of the Universal Health Insurance System, which seeks to provide comprehensive healthcare coverage for all citizens according to the highest quality standards through an integrated insurance system.
It is worth noting that the institute comprises seven specialized departments: Pediatric Oncology and Hematologic Malignancies, Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematologic Malignancies, Cancer Biology, Medical Statistics and Cancer Epidemiology, and Palliative Medicine. The planned expansion aims to increase the institute’s capacity to 400 inpatient beds, 40 intensive care beds, and 40 intermediate-care beds, in addition to equipping six operating rooms, 100 chemotherapy chairs, and four radiotherapy stations. The institute also offers master’s degrees in Medical Oncology and Hematologic Malignancies, Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, Cancer Epidemiology and Control, Pediatric Oncology and Hematologic Malignancies, and Palliative Medicine, as well as doctoral degrees in Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology and Hematologic Malignancies, Radiation Oncology, Cancer Biology, Cancer Epidemiology and Control, and Nuclear Medicine.
Prof. Hani El-Hashimy, Director of El-Hashimy Engineering Consultancy Office and the lead planner of the designs and master plan, explained that the proposed expansions for the Oncology Institute and University Hospitals were developed in accordance with the latest global engineering and medical standards, ensuring high operational efficiency and future-proof flexibility. He stressed that the office was keen on introducing innovative design solutions that improve movement flow across the site, enhance the quality of medical services, and provide a safe and integrated therapeutic environment. He noted that collaboration with Monufia University reflects a shared commitment to developing healthcare facilities in a manner that meets community needs and aligns with national plans to advance the medical sector.
