Menoufia University Launches “Together Against Violence Against Women – You Are Safe” Campaign and Announces Its Official Anti-Violence and Anti-Discrimination Policy

Under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Farag El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, and as a pioneering step reinforcing its role as a university supportive of human rights and women’s empowerment, Menoufia University launched today the activities of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign under the slogan: “Together Against Violence Against Women – You Are Safe.” The event was attended by Prof. Ahmed El-Kased, Prof. Nasser Abdel-Bary, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Ghada Hassan, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Rania Azmy, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Coordinator of the University’s Women’s Empowerment and Equal Opportunities Unit, representatives from the National Council for Women, alongside numerous deans, vice deans, and students.

During the opening, Prof. El-Kased officially announced the launch of the “Institutional Policy for Combating Violence and Discrimination at Menoufia University,” a comprehensive document and the first of its kind within the University. The policy aims to establish a clear framework for addressing violence and discrimination cases while providing a safe and dignified university environment for all.

The University President explained that the policy includes confidential and secure reporting mechanisms, immediate protection procedures, psychological, social, and legal support for victims, along with a comprehensive plan for ongoing awareness and training across all faculties.

In his speech, Prof. El-Kased expressed his happiness at launching the campaign, emphasizing that the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has given unprecedented attention to women’s issues. He added that combating violence against women is a responsibility for the entire society, starting with awareness and culminating in cultivating a culture that respects women and their role in sustainable development and Egypt’s future vision.

He further stressed: “Women are not only half of society; they are its beating heart, creators of generations, and full partners in development.” Through the “You Are Safe” campaign, Menoufia University seeks to embed a culture of equality and respect within the campus.

Prof. Nasser Abdel-Bary noted that this year’s campaign program is more comprehensive than ever, featuring:

  • Training workshops and awareness seminars

  • Interactive discussion sessions and art exhibitions

  • Student activities addressing physical, verbal, and digital violence

  • Psychological and legal support sessions for female students

Dr. Rania Azmy highlighted the presentation of achievements by the Equal Opportunities and Women’s Empowerment Unit and the announcement of the campaign plan, covering all faculties and institutes from 25 November to 10 December.

The University explained that the institutional policy is based on four main pillars:

  1. Prevention and Awareness: Campaigns, workshops, and educational programs.

  2. Response and Intervention: Clear and confidential reporting and investigation mechanisms.

  3. Support and Protection: Psychological, social, and legal support without stigma.

  4. Monitoring and Evaluation: Regular oversight and continuous policy updates.

Implementation of the policy will be supervised by the Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, in full cooperation with the Equal Opportunities and Women’s Empowerment Unit and all faculties and administrative units.

University Message: “No place for violence… no compromise on human dignity.”

At the conclusion of the opening, Menoufia University delivered a clear message to its academic community: “Stand against any form of violence or discrimination… committed to protecting every individual on campus, safeguarding women’s rights, and supporting their role as full partners in development.”

The University called upon all students, staff, and faculty members to participate in the campaign activities, reinforcing a culture of respect and equality.
