Under the supervision of Prof. Ahmed Farag El-Kased, President of Menoufia University, and in a remarkable medical achievement highlighting the leadership of Menoufia University Hospitals in advanced non-surgical interventions, a specialized medical team from the Department of Diagnostic Radiology successfully saved the life of a patient suffering from severe internal bleeding that could have been fatal. The intervention was performed using a highly precise interventional radiology procedure, without the need for any surgical operation, under the supervision of Prof. Mohamed Fahmy El-Naamani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, Dr. Mohamed Sabry, Executive Director of University Hospitals, and Dr. Sami El-Dahdouh, General Director and Deputy Executive Director of the hospitals.
Prof. El-Kased stated that the patient arrived at the university hospitals’ emergency department in a critical condition, presenting with severe hematemesis and profuse rectal bleeding, which caused a dangerously low hemoglobin level. Immediate intervention was required to stop the bleeding and identify its source.
The medical team conducted precise endoscopic and CT imaging examinations, which revealed abnormal arterial dilations in the stomach wall caused by an atypical artery originating directly from the aorta, resulting in repeated and severe bleeding that threatened the patient’s life.
Once the bleeding artery was identified, the diagnostic radiology team performed a highly precise interventional procedure without surgery, utilizing microcatheters, tiny coils, microparticles, and foam gel—advanced techniques designed to accurately occlude bleeding vessels.
The team successfully stopped the bleeding completely and restored the patient’s health in record time, fully adhering to medical safety standards and preserving the surrounding tissue.
Prof. El-Kased emphasized that this emergency case exemplifies the advanced capabilities of Menoufia University Hospitals in providing cutting-edge medical care.
